Nawaz Sharif raises Kashmir again and again and again at UNGA

Nawaz Sharif

Pakistan Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif today at the 71st Session of the United Nations General Assembly, in New York asserted that foreign forces are trying to destabilise Pakistan. He again raked up the Kashmir issue and said that peace between India and Pakistan is not possible without resolution of the 'Kashmir issue.'
Sharif accused India of putting "unacceptable" conditions on dialogue with Pakistan and said the world would ignore the dangers of rising tensions in South Asia at its own peril.
HERE ARE THE HIGHLIGHTS OF HIS SPEECH
  • In many countries the ghost of intolerance has revived xenophobia and Islamophobia.
  • World still turbulent and chaotic.
  • No peace when injustice prevails.
  • My government has moved Pakistan towards robust growth.
  • We will not allow foreign forces to destabilise the development of Pakistan.
  • Pakistan itself is a victim of external terrorism.
  • Burhan Wani, the young leader murdered by Indian forces has emerged as a symbol of latest Kashmiri 'Intifada.'
  • Peace between Pakistan and India not possible without resolution of Kashmir.
  • We have gone the extra mile to achieve this, repeatedly offering a dialogue to address all outstanding issues.
  • India posed unacceptable pre conditions to engage in dialogue. Talks are no favour to Pakistan, they are in interest of both countries.
  • This is an objective evaluation not a partisan position. Our predictions have now been confirmed by events
Speaking to the annual United Nations General Assembly, Sharif also said Pakistan could not ignore India's "unprecedented" arms build-up and would "take whatever measures are necessary to maintain credible deterrence."
